Sipps Pensions

What is a SIPP or Self-Invested Personal Pension?

A SIPP is a type of personal pension scheme.

The SIPP itself is a pension "wrapper" provided by a pension administrator sometimes also referred to as SIPP Trustee. The Administrator/Trustee creates the pension plan on your behalf providing all the legal aspects and benefits. The Administrators' duties will include reporting to the HMRC, collecting your premiums, requesting your tax relief and paying your income in retirement.

Some Administrators may specialise in commercial property, agriculture or make it cost effective for equity trading.

Once you have found the most suitable Administrator, you would ordinarily need to appoint a qualified investment adviser to help you control your investments. This is where we come in, as we have the ability to invest into a wide range of investments including equities, bonds, gilts and collectives etc.

Investor's not seeking to take advantage of the broader range of investments or the features and benefits offered by a Self-Invested Personal Pension should consider whether a personal pension with a wide range of collective investments is more cost effective in the long term.

One of the advantages of a SIPP is that you are able to take an income whilst keeping your money invested in retirement and so potentially benefiting from further investment growth.

As with all pension funds such as Personal Pension and Stakeholder schemes, you are not allowed to take an income until you reach the age of 55.

SIPPs are ideally suited to the more adventurous investor wishing to invest in higher risk assets or those who wish to exercise more control over their pension planning.
